Asian Games 2018 Jakarta - Palembang begins today

After the Olympic Games, the battle of Asian Games 2018 begins today. It is the 18th edition of Asian Games, as it comes after every four years. This is the first time that Asian Games have been hosted together by two cities Jakarta and Palembang of Indonesia. The tournament starts today 18th August and ends on 2nd September 2018.

The opening ceremony of Asian Games starts today at 5:30 IST will be held at the Gelora Bung Karno main stadium of Jakarta. The broadcast of the opening ceremony will commence on SONY SPORTS Channel and online live streaming on Sony LIV in India.

The Indian contingent will be led in front of an audience when the traditional ‘Parades of Athletes’ at 6:15 IST led by young javelin- thrower Neeraj Chopra carrying India’s flag. In this 18th edition of Asian Games 45 nations, 465 events in 40 sports and around 11,000 Athletes will be participating.

 

Asian Games 2018 Mascot

Derawan, a bird-of-paradise character was chosen as the mascot of the 2018 Asian Games back in 2015. However, it was replaced by the trio of Bhin Bhin (bird of paradise), Atung(Bawean Deer) and Ika(one-horned rhinoceros).

The official logo for the 2018 Asian Games is themed ‘Energy of Asia’ and depicts an aerial view of Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, which was built for when Jakarta hosted the 1962 Asian Games.
