Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan became the President of India in 1962. On the day of his birthday, his friends and alumni contacted him
and requested to let him celebrate his birthday, which falls on 5 September. Dr. S. Radhakrishnan said it would be his honor if September 5 is celebrated as Teacher’s Day. This request of the second President of India demonstrated his affection and dedication towards the teachers. Teacher’s Day is celebrated every year on the 5th of September from that day. Teachers’ Day has been celebrated in India since 1962, the year in which Dr. Radhakrishnan assumed the office of the President of India. He believed that teachers have the most brains, only then do they improve the life of the student. Sarvepalli Radha Krishnan had said that the whole world is a school, where one gets to learn something or the other.
