Wrestling: Panghal won a bronze medal
Indian wrestler Panghal won the bronze medal in women’s freestyle 53kg at the 19th Asian Games 2023 after defeating Tokyo 2020 Olympics bronze medalist Bolortuya Bat-Ochir of Mongolia 3-1. Last Panghal is also the current Under-20 World Champion.
The 19-year-old Indian wrestler lost to Japan’s Akari Fujinami in the quarterfinals of the 19th Asian Games today. However, Panghal eventually made it to the bronze medal match through a bye in the repechage round.
Meanwhile, Panghal won a bronze medal at the World Wrestling Championships in Serbia last month.
Pooja Gehlot and Naveen were defeated in the bronze medal match in wrestling.
Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Pooja Gehlot failed to repeat her feat at the Asian Games 2023 and lost 2-9 to Uzbekistan’s Aktenze Kunimjeva in the bronze medal match. Aktenge Kunimjeva is a three-time bronze medalist at the Asian Championships.
Indian wrestler Naveen suffered a 5-1 defeat against Minseok Kim of the Republic of Korea in the Greco-Roman 130kg bronze medal match at the Asian Games 2023.
Earlier, 33-year-old Naveen had lost to China’s Meng Lingzhe in the quarterfinals but won the repechage round against Singapore’s Timothy Yu Loh to reach the bronze medal match.
Squash: Saurav Ghoshal won a silver medal
India’s Saurav Ghosal had to settle for a silver medal after losing in the men’s singles match. Saurav Ghosal faced Malaysia’s Ian Yoo Ng in the Asian Games 2023 squash final and lost 3-1.
Saurav Ghoshal had earlier been a part of the Indian men’s team that won the gold medal at the Asian Games 2023. His medal tally at the continental competition has taken the number of medals to 10, including three team golds, two singles silvers, three singles bronzes and two team bronze medals. Meanwhile, India won two gold, one silver and two bronze medals in the 19th Asian Games Squash.
Hockey: The Indian women’s team lost 4-0 against China in the semi-finals.
The Indian women’s hockey team suffered a 4-0 defeat against China in the semi-finals of the Asian Games 2023. The Chinese players maintained the lead against India from the beginning of the match and till the end, the Indian team could not score a single goal.
The Indian women’s hockey team will play against South Korea or Japan in the bronze medal match on Saturday.
Sport Climbing: Four Indians take the lead and make it to bouldering semi-finals
The Indian climber performed brilliantly in the lead and boulder qualification rounds today and made it to the semi-finals.
Aman Verma finished eighth after both qualification rounds, scoring 118.8 – 64.8 in boulder and 54.0 in lead. Meanwhile, Bharat Stephen Perera Kamath finished 13th with 69.7 boulders and 28.1 lead points. The men’s semi-finals will begin tomorrow at 6:30 AM (IST).
Sania Farooq Shaikh and Shivani Charak finished 17th and 18th respectively in the women’s lead and bouldering qualification rounds. She will compete in the semi-finals on Saturday, October 7 at 10:50 am (IST).
Kabaddi: India defeats Japan 56-30 to make it to the semifinals against Pakistan.
The Indian men’s Kabaddi team registered its fourth win at the Asian Games 2023 by defeating Japan 56-30 in the fourth and final match of Group A on Thursday. India will face Pakistan on Friday in Hangzhou with the aim of making it to the gold medal match.
India had secured their place in the semi-finals by defeating Chinese Taipei 50-27 in their third match of Group A held earlier in the day. India will now face Pakistan on Friday for a place in the gold medal match.
Archery: The men’s compound team won the gold medal
The Indian men’s compound team clinched the Asian Games 2023 title by defeating Republic of Korea 235-230 in the final. India had also won the title in the 2014 edition.
The Indian trio of Ojas Praveen Deotale, Abhishek Verma and Prathamesh Javkar shot 58, 58 and 59 on the first three shots, before sealing the gold medal with a perfect 60 on the fourth shot. Abhishek Verma, who was part of the silver medal-winning team in 2018, won the gold medal.
Meanwhile, Ojas Praveen Deotale and Prathamesh Javkar won their first men’s compound team title in the Asian Games. Earlier in the day, the Indian women’s compound team had won the gold medal.
Squash: Deepika Pallikal-Harinder Pal Sandhu wins a gold medal in mixed doubles
India at Asian Games 2023: India’s Deepika Pallikal and Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu won the first mixed doubles gold medal in Asian Games history. In the final in Hangzhou, the Indian pair defeated Malaysia’s Aifa Azman and Mohammad Syafiq Kamal 11-10, 11-10. Deepika-Harinder won the Asian Games 2023 squash mixed doubles title by losing only two games.
This is Dipika Pallikal’s first Asian Games gold medal, while Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu won his third medal in the continental competition. The success in squash mixed doubles has taken India’s tally of gold medals at the 19th Asian Games to 20.

India at Asian Games 2023: With more than 80 medals won at the Asian Games, India has put on its best performance to date. The Indian contingent surpassed its previous best of 70 medals on Wednesday, putting out its strongest effort at the Asian Games in Hangzhou. India’s athletes earned 70 medals at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, including 16 gold, 23 silver, and 31 bronze, which was their previous best performance.
India currently holds 86 medals in total, and that number is steadily rising. At the moment, there are 21 gold, 32 silver, and 33 bronze medals. With this, India is in fourth place in the Asian Games medal tally after China, Japan and the Republic of Korea.
